Have you been injured as a result of a crime? Individuals that have been injured out of violent crimes can make an application for financial compensation from the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board (‘CICB’).

The CICB is an administrative tribunal that provides financial compensation for victims of violent crime, and in some situations, their family members. If an application for compensation at the CICB is successful, an applicant can be awarded a lump sum payment of up to $25,000.00. The CICB also awards compensation of up to $1,000.00 a month in periodic payments, if compensation is required on an ongoing basis. Dependents of an individual that died as a result of the crime can make an application for financial compensation. Anyone that paid expenses as a result of the death (i.e. child care, bereavement counselling, etc.) can apply for compensation. The CICB covers expenses such as loss of income, treatment expenses, funeral and burial expenses, counselling expenses, loss of financial support for dependents of a deceased victim.
